Shinji by Kanesaka
Yesterday was H's daddy birthday and we pre-celebrated it on Saturday at Shinji by Kanesaka!
It is an extension of 2-star Michelin Chef Shinji Kanesaka’s Edo-style sushi restaurant first set up in Tokyo’s exclusive Ginza district!
Shinji by Kanesaka is a rather small and cozy restaurant, featuring about 15 bar seats where you can see the sushi chefs in action!
I love it the most when I can see them doing their work :D It's like watching a performance! lol
There's also a private room available for those who come in a big group & prefer privacy!
We had the 'Omakase Shin' set priced at $450/pax.
If you're interested in the other Omakase sets & price list, you can view them here.
Our personal chef that night was Master Chef Oshino Koichiro who is the helm of the team!
He's really super cute and friendly I swear!! I am kinda intimidated with these kinda 'atas'/fancy/traditional Japanese sushi restaurants cuz I do know that alot of such chefs really take pride in their work, and hates it when people waste time taking pictures/talking too much instead of eating/being too loud etc. Like they really want you to eat the food immediately once it is being served (Chef Oshino told me that there's this 3 seconds rule: We should consume the sushi within 3 seconds after it is placed it on our plates!).
I have also heard of people being scolded by the sushi chefs etc (tho mostly in Japan la)...... so honestly I was a lil afraid.
But I am glad that he's totally fine with me taking pictures and even occasionally, posing for me! hehe
GOD DAMN UNI-S
Omg so goooooood!!! We were served 4 different kinds of Unis, I think its from different parts of Japan, lol I don't know. But I really enjoyed this dish! Very interesting to be able to taste how different each uni was, even though they are the same...?? Erm get what I am trying to say? lol :/
See he's so cute!! Kept asking me to take a photo of him and his knife hahah. He even posed just nice, right under the spot light so cute?!?! HAHAHAHA
Biggest abalone I have seen yet. Simmered for 4 hours, so chewy and tender. Yummy!!!!
Slabs of fresh sashimi flown in from Japan
Assorted Nigiri Sushi. So amazed by all the freshness!! Felt like I was having my dinner right in Japan itself~
Probably one of the novelty of that day was eating these sushi the right way - using my fingers!! No chopsticks no nothing! Pretty interesting :)
Thought that this was beef, but noooo!!! It's a cooked fish but errrr I forgot what fish this was. Cooked Tuna??
Not helping that there's no menu so I can't refer... lol. Nonetheless, this dish was just so delectable!
Well, halfway through our dinner, lights were turned off all of a sudden?? I thought there was a blackout/short circuit but was sooooo surprised to see the sushi chefs coming out of the kitchen in these party gears for the birthday boy!!!
SUPER CUTE PLEASE I CANNOT HAHAHAHA
HAHAHA I CANNOT, KEPT LAUGHING NON STOP LOL
Happy birthday uncle and thank you for bringing me here :D
Okay so after 5mins of laughter, dinner was resumed!
And this is out of all, my favourite dish that night!! I can eat it over and over again but Chef Oshino told me beware of high cholesterol LOL.
This amazing bowl consists of rice mixed with uni, fatty tuna (I think) and salmon roes. MY GOD. EVERY BITE WAS JUST A BURST OF FLAVOURS. I WANT THIS NOWWWWW~
And even more Nigiri sushis....
Ended the dinner with a shrimp soup which was freaking flavoursome and Japanese fruits. The melons were beyond sweet!?!? How can the melons be so this sweet I really don't understand!! No pictures cuz the glutton me ate it halfway and realised I forgot to snap pictures for it... lol
This is by far, the most expensive meal I ever ate. But also one of the most satisfying meal I had.
The bill came up to almost $667/pax after taxes and drinks. However, I think it's a meal everyone should try at least once in their lifetime! If price is an issue, you'll be happy to know that there are also other cheaper options, especially during lunch time :D
You won't regret it!
