Genting Guide: 10 THINGS TO DO IN GENTING!

Hi all!!  I visited Genting Highlands just 2 weeks ago and I was really soooo hyped about this trip!! The last time I been to Genting was when I was 8 or 9 years old together with my family so that's really super duper long ago! Actually I wasn't planning to visit Genting because everyone told me Genting is dead-boring... but I happened to come across an online deal - 3D2N Coach & Hotel Stay inclusive for only $90!! It was cheap so off we went for a short getaway! 
For those who don't already know, Genting is approximately an hour drive from Kuala Lumper and is nestled on a mountain peak! So expect really cooling weather.. I love the weather so much!! It's like between 18-20°C when I was there!

For those planning a visit to Genting soon, here's 10 things for you to do when you're there!


1. THEME PARKS
There are 2 kinds of theme parks in Genting - Genting Outdoor Theme Park and First World Indoor Theme Park! It may not be the best theme park ever.. but they definitely still top the 'to-do-list' whenever tourists are in Genting!

Jj and I only visited the Outdoor Theme Park which is priced at 54RM.  You could buy a 1-Day Unlimited Ride Pass for both Indoor and Outdoor at 70RM.

We sat this Pirates Train which was totally MEHHH to the maximum. Not sure if the ride was actually down because it was like PITCH BLACK inside??? Couldn't even see anything much less having anything 'scaring' us. lol

Bf literally gave this face to me when I said I wna sit the merry-go-round ride! Anyway.... alot of rides were closed for maintenance check etc when we were there. DAMN SAD LA :(


I agreed to sit this Corkscrew ride cuz it didn't look very intimidating... but the queue was closed 5 MINS BEFORE WE JOINED THE QUEUE. Really damn sian.... Alot of other tourists like us were turned away. Damn bad lor how can you close the ride halfway when the park is still open! So ridiculous..

But okay la it wasn't that bad for me since I am not a fan of rollercoaster rides anyway. Just felt bad for Jj & the other tourists~

We sat this and we felt so giddy cuz of the continuous spin and also super cold cuz of the wind. Lol

Cupcorn!! LOVE IT!!  I ate this so many times when I was in Genting. When the weather is sooo cooling and the cupcorn is so warm, it's damn shiok!






OH I SAT THIS RIDE TOO AND I THOUGHT MY LIFE NEARLY ENDED  *pats on my back* I was so brave.. lol






Jj and I on the flying coaster ride...  Lol my bun became a bee hive after the ride and Jj couldn't stop laughing at my hair. Idiot!!

This is like a monorail(??) ride that allows you to see the whole of First World Plaza from the top! There's also an indoor rollercoaster ride but I thought the rollercoaster was moving pretty slowly..?



2. CASINOS

If you're already of legal age, Casinos are a MUST in Genting!! There are alot alot of casinos in Genting so just take your pick!! There are also non smoking casinos which I personally prefer. Hate ciggs smell to death.



If you're like me who do not gamble, or this is your first time... why not just try your luck?? Cuz you'll never know what will happen and there's also something called 'Beginners Luck'!!!

3. GENTING STRAWBERRY FARM

To head over to the strawberry farm.. you gotta take the cablecar down first!




It was super cold that morning (cuz it was drizzling) and super foggy!!






Natural day sunlight is the best filter for your pictures! Love this picture, I think both of us look good & my nose looks sharp lol ^^


While in the cablecar, admire the surrounding sceneries or be like me... CAMWHORE!!




Halfway down the peak and it was no longer as foggy!





After alighting form the cablecar.. usually your option would be to take this super cute strawberry shuttle for 2RM (I think??) but sadly it wasn't operating that day!



So we took a complimentary free shuttle bus!! The bus didn't alight us directly outside the strawberry farm. It takes about 5-10mins by foot from the bus stop to the strawberry farm!

Within the Strawberry farm, there's also a mushroom farm and flower farm!

Finally made my way to the strawberry farm...

All so small and tiny and sourrrrrr. Lol Not a fan of strawberries actually but I think they look cute!

















Then we had some snacks at the strawberry farm!



Even the tables are so cute!! Hehehe


Strawberry Milkshake (10.90RM) was good! Expected it to be sour but it turns out fine~


Mushroom Tempura and Strawberry Chicken Wings (12RM each). I love the mushroom tempura but the chicken wings was just.... wings coated with strawberry sauce/syrup? Lol unique taste la! I like how they were so generous with the mushroom tempura! :D




And took the cable car ride back up~ :D



4. THE OLIVE (Lobby Floor of Genting Grand)

OOTD for my fine dining!
When I was googling on where to eat in Genting.. I saw a lot of positive reviews for The Olive. Naturally, I would want to try it too and luckily Jj agreed to my request! :D It was pretty exp!




We were there on a Monday night so maybe that's why it was very empty! Aside from us, there were only another 2 filled tables~






Complimentary starters. It was something-grape. Very refreshing it didn't even feel like grape!!




The only time I would eat bread... Anyway the black bread is actually a squidink bread!


ESCARGOTS!! LOVE IT SO MUCHHHHH. Snails really do taste great lol ^.*

Signature Truffle Mushroom Soup! super love also!! Everything was just soooooo good!!






The forever very attentive, courteous and well mannered staff took this pretty pic for us! All the staff were just very meticulous!


My main dish was Scallop Capellini! Kinda regret ordering this dish... it was good la but it didn't WOW me. 
Besides, The Olive is actually well-known for their steaks... but the price just put Jj and I off so I went for something cheaper. Lol. Now that I think back... SHOULD HAVE JUST ATE THE BEEF RIGHT. Try it once and for all and leave no regrets!!


Jj ordered the Veal and omg... *MINDBLOWN* IT WAS SO GOOD.
We were even more regretful for not ordering their steak..... to a point when both of us finished our main courses.. we almost wanted to order one more steak to share because we know ITS GONNA BE VERY AWESOME. Then again, the price was staring at us hard.. sian so we didn't. Lol. Ahhh like I said.. one of us should have ordered the steak right from the start!


Anyway when Jj made a reservation for the both of us, he also mentioned to them that he would be celebrating his girlfriend's birthday. Well we visited 3 days after my birthday so it was still pretty close right...  Normally for restaurants, they'll just give a complimentary slice of cake or something right?? The Olive totally WOW-ED ME!!
THEY PRESENTED ME WITH A FULL WHOLE CHOCOLATE CAKE.
It was crazy!! Somemore only Jj and I.. HOW TO FINISH?!




The staff gathered and sang a birthday song for me too.. So sweet!! ;)
I would highly suggest for couples who will be heading there to just mention you're celebrating birthday, or celebrating anniversary or celebrate whatever la!! Yknow.. and get this complimentary cake cuz it tastes super awesome also. Obviously the both of us couldn't finish and they offered takeaway service for us! :D


HAPPY ME!! Hehehehehee I love birthdays~ :D




When we were settling the bill, they gave us this complimentary (yet again!!) chocolate dessert.. the chocolate was kinda hard on the surface but once you bite it through.. it M-E-L-T-S IN YOUR MOUTH and the whole chocolate-taste was just soooo over whelming!!
Sorry I suck in describing food but in short, thank you The Olive for this amazing and awesome fine dining experience!!





5. NIGHTLIFE: BARS/CLUBS

CLOUD9 (lower lobby floor, Genting Grand) This is more of a pub style and there's a live band singing inside!


Patio Bar & Lounge (First World Plaza) Open concept kinda pub~ It was very crowded and lively on Sunday night but rather quiet on Monday night!


For us... we headed to MODESTOS!! (Lower lobby floor, Genting Grand) We decided on here partly because there's no cover charge (not sure if the person wavied it off for us lol) but more importantly, there's a dj inside spinning music!! I didn't quite like the live bands at other places cuz alot were chinese/cantonese kinda songs so r&b music works best for me :D


It was Monday night so yeap... QUIET. but the atmosphere was not bad!

The music was great and you could even request the dj to spin the song of your choice! I requested for my all time favourite, SHM - Don't you worry Child!
This will definitely be a great hanging out spot at night esp if you're here with a big bunch of friends!! I really wanna visit Genting again with alot alot of friends! It's gonna be sooo fun! :D

And IT IS MANDATORY TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE DJ. hehehe A shot with him before I left!



6. SHOPPING

Retail therapy works wonder for the soul, agree??


Alot of sale going on~



But even if nothing appeals to you.... just walk around First World Plaza TO TAKE LOTSA PICTURES!  Everywhere just looks damn exaggerated here so alot of photo-worthy spots!

7. BOWLING



Challenge your friends to a round of bowling!!




It was my VERY F I R S T TIME playing bowling. I know right... How have i been living my life?? In Singapore, whenever I visit the bowling alley with my friends, everyone there looks damn pro la and I didn't want to embarrass myself, so i always choose to sit one corner and watch my friends play!
Now, all I can say is bowling is pretty fun!!! :D Glad I tried it in Genting!


GUESS I DO REALLY HAVE ABIT OF BEGINNERS LUCK?!?! I WON JJ LEH. Hahah he was so pissed I swear!!



8. MASSAGE
I love massages, who doesn't right??? You'll be happy to know that there are alot of massage services in Genting!

M SPA (Lobby Floor, Genting Grand) Saw reviews of it being very awesome but it is also at the same time, VERY EXPENSIVE so I didn't try it. Give me my 250baht Thai Massage now!! :(


For me.. I did my massage at HEALING TOUCH! There's one right at the lobby of First World Hotel but I did it at the one in First World Plaza!

Took the outdoor sit so I could look at the surrounding scenery! :D


9. COFFEE TERRACE (Maxims Genting)



It was highly recommended for their buffet breakfast BUT JJ AND I WOKE UP LATE. So we reached super late... we paid lesser each since I think it's like off-peak time... but there were also very little food left even though it was buffet :( Like they didn't really replenish the food cuz the chefs were starting to prepare for lunch! :( 

Some of the food we had... luckily we were pretty full too after the meal!

10. BELIEVE IT OR NOT
Heard from Jj's it is an exhibition which is kinda interesting.. I haven't been inside myself but Jj entered TWICE before. I really didn't want to bore him to death so I chose not to go... Lol. Nvm there's always a next time I believe!


So there you go, 10 things to do when you're in Genting! :D  I hope it was helpful!!

- - - For the curious ones.. I stayed in First World Hotel.



Many people told me First World is very 'dirty'.. but I choose not to believe in that kinda stuff cuz I don't wanna scare myself. I left one light switched on while sleeping though just to be safe~

HAUNTED ADVENTURE
Obviously I didn't enter also la.. I damn scared of fake ghosts scaring humans. lol and Jj told me it's really scary!!  So nehhh, NO FOR MEEEE.

KARAOKE



We also tried Marrybrown when we were there!



Nothing spectacular.. i thought the chicken had some indian spices kinda smell lol
but ANYWAY!!! I think 2 other places you should try is this ALL YOU CAN EAT STEAMBOAT BUFFET in First World Plaza for only 20++RM. Looks so awesome... wished I saw that before I decided on Marrybrown!!  Also you should try Imperial Rama which is a fine dining restaurant for Thai-Chinese Cuisine!


If you're really really bored of Genting... you can choose to head to KL!! KL is only an hour drive away and there are buses departing from Genting Bus Terminal every hour or so~  Bus tickets are really cheap also.. like 5RM??? :D

Upon reaching KL, we headed to Bukit Bintang which is the main shopping district. Somehow like our Orchard Road..

I didn't do much research on KL and was frantically trying to search where to eat in Bukit Bintang! Alot of travellers recommended LOT 10 food court so we headed there!



It was quite like a typical food court with alot of different cuisines.. but the decorations inside were kinda interesting!

Went shopping in H&M but nothing caught my eye..

Sorry i really forgot which malls we entered... there's just alot of malls there so we entered randomly!

Settled at Starbucks in Pavilion to nua cuz we were both so tired from all the walking~




Walked to Times Square cuz we had to take the monorail from here to the bus terminal to take the bus back to Genting!






MINI CUPCAKES! It was suppperrrrr cheap!


Came across this level of shops.. everything was going for 10RM, 15RM or 20RM. Most were 10RM though I NEARLY WENT CRAZY!! But I had only 10mins to shop before taking the monorail I was so stressed in the end I bought nothing lol.  #cantworkunderstress #truestory

some stuff I bought from KL. Stocked up my etude house brown eyeliner cuz it was 1 for 1 in KL.. so it was only SGD$4 for one stick. MAD CHEAP

Thank you Genting for all the fun I had! I would definitely want to come back again after the revamp of the Outdoor Theme Park... in 2015 I think?? Oh that's still so long! :(
