Jj's first birthday with me!

Last Saturday was the day my Dear Prince turned 23!!! Since it was his first birthday celebration with me, I wanted to give him surprises to make it more memorable! 
BIRTHDAY PART 1 So last Wednesday, the original plan was to party with just Stef, Karx and Ash! But at the same time, I was trying to arrange a birthday party for Jj with his friends so I was thinking... WHY NOT SURPRISE HIM?? I decided to lie to Jj that I'll be partying with my girlfriends and all of them are bringing their date/bf so he HAD to come along with me or I'll be lonely and awkward.

The unknowing him didn't realise that I had already arranged guestlists for his friends at Zouk as well to give him a super pre birthday surprise!!

Anw, TGIW in Zouk IS REALLY FUN AND GOOD. Music and all is much better in my opinion compared to Zouk on Weekends!!

BIRTHDAY PART 2 Friday Night!


Dinner at Raindrops Cafe.  This is also the first cafe where we had our dinner on the first day we got together!
I remembered we enjoyed the food on our first date here. But sadly, fish&chips was kinda disappointing on that night. The truffle fries didn't taste truffle as well. Jj's beef pasta was good though! And after the dinner at Raindrops Cafe, we walked around Cine and when it was 12am.. I SANG A BIRTHDAY SONG FOR HIM BAHAHHAAHA. We then headed over to Avalon (previous blog entry) to join my colleagues! K then drink drank drunk, party party partaye...
BIRTHDAY PART 3 Slept for like.. a maximum of 3 hours before waking up to prepare to bring the birthday boy out for his birthday lunch treat! Actually I could have slept for like 5 hours but the busy/lazy/forever procrastinating me... dragged until the very last minute to do his birthday card. Hahaha. I am terrible like this.





Birthday Prezzie hailed all the way from London! Soooo thankful to Jorene who helped me to purchase this which also helped me saved almost $150!!

We had our lunch at Dozo Restaurant - Fine Modern Japanesque Dining!

Noodle Snack for us to munch on while making our choices!!  This noodle snack was already so damn good (you won't stop snacking on them!!) until I couldn't wait for the rest of the dishes to be served!! I've heard so much about the great food here at Dozo and I'm really glad I made the right decision to dine here instead of a Semi -Buffet lunch elsewhere~

Dozo has really excellent customer service!!! Yknow I was late for almost 45mins, arriving only 15mins before they close for lunch but yet they were still willing and happy to receive us when we reached. The whole time inside the car, I was so worried that they would reject us when we reach and I got really panicky cuz I don't know where else to go for lunch. I mean it's a Saturday.. everywhere gonna be crowded and it will be so difficult to get seats without prior reservations!! 
Also, everytime when the food is served to you, the friendly waiter would explain each dish to you and the way you should eat it!

Yuzu Sorbet  It was recommened to drink it before starting on the Starters.


We were told to start with the Scallop first, then the Foie Gras on top of bread and lastly, the Smoked Salmon! Personally, I can't seemed to appreciate Foie Gras because there's just this super yucky taste of it which I really dislike. But the one from Dozo was still quite manageable for me. Or perhaps it was due to the relatively smaller size so the taste wasn't that strong. In any case, these were great starters!!

After the starters and side dishes, it was time for some SOUP!

I was advised to chew on this truffle first before having the soup!


This was what I had and I really love it!! It was fragrant and nice! And unlike most mushroom soup out there, this didn't leave me having the 'sick' feeling even up till the last sip!


While mine was more on the western side, Jj's choice of soup was totally the opposite. It was more of a chinese soup version and we were really surprised at how SWEEEEEET tasting the boiled beef was!!

By now, we were both almost 1/2 - 3/4 full. Even though the portions seemed small, they were surprisingly quite filling!

Time to move on to the MAINS!

When I asked for a picture to be taken, the lovely waiter was DAMN CUTE. He took a picture from the center,  from the left angle and also from the right angle!! The above picture is from the right angle. Hahaha they must be all so well trained and professional from all the photo takings!

This is a MUST(!!!) order dish when you're at Dozo!  The beef was so juicy and tender and tasted so great, especially with the accompanied sauce!! Like... effortlessly great. Haha. I quite like the deep fried fan too (I supposed it's made of pasta?) even though it was kinda oily! But ahhhh, the combination was perfectttttttooo!!


This was Jj's choice of main dish and I love the texture of this dish!  There's this thin crust of layer above the pork cheek which was so crispy and crunchy! So the contrast between this crispy crust and the soft pork cheek gave the whole texture of this dish an ooommphh!


The beef was served as Medium Rare! But I love it as Medium Well Done, so I flipped the beef and continued cooking it on the hot stone!


NOMZNOMZNOMZ.


And the tea...... MADE ME FEEL LIKE CRYING. I still can't believe how amazing these drinks tasted like. Its like after taking your first sip, your eyes will totally light up kind yknow!! Ok or at least that's what happened to Jj and I. Hahaha. While I was savouring my Iced Rose Lemon Tea, I really felt like I was in some heaven, with flowers and butterflies all around me and everywhere else was white and fluffy (aka clouds haha). I must be crazy right..


There's alot of privacy too because the seats are spaced extremely far apart!

I love my warm chocolate dessert especially when eating it together with the vanilla ice cream! The Japanese Mochi however, was a disappointment!! The mochi was the only thing I did not enjoy and did not finish during the entire meal! And I felt super bad since I was the one who asked Jj to choose the Mochi dessert because I'm really a fan of soft fluffy mochis. I thought the one at Dozo would be similar but it was kinda hard and it wasn't chewy at all. Mehh.

When I called in to make a reservation, I also informed the staff that I would be celebrating my bf's birthday and they surprised us with this small lil sweet gesture!! Actually it wasn't really surprise-surprise because every other couple at the other tables had their cakes served before ours (since we were super late..) so yea, Jj already kinda expected to have a slice of cake as well. Wellz~



The cute waiter again, told Jj to join me at my side for photo taking. HAHAHA.


And told me to give a birthday kiss to the birthday boy. WOW.




Don't you think my bf is like competing against me for the title of....  "Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" LOL




OOTD  Dozo is really worth going!! And I would really want to go back again! It's like from the starters to the mains and all, it just keeps getting better and better! :)

BIRTHDAY PART 4 A planned Birthday surprise with Jj & his friends at Switch by Timbre! Actually it wasn't really a surprise cuz he was already suspecting that I was up to something.. and while shopping, he could tell that I was tired so he said after shopping, we will be going back home to rest. But I kept refusing and insisted that I want to go and chill tonight and he's like ?????!! because I was really insistent on staying out. AND THE WORST WAS WHEN........... We were shopping halfway.. and seriously I don't know what I was thinking but I went to ask him.. "So later how many girls are going??" and he turned and looked at me... "Later??" Fwahh I instantly woke up from my moment of daze and I was chanting non stop in my head 'SHITTT WHAT HAVE I DONE... '





The Menu and the placing of orders were all done using the Ipad!!

OHYEA, another clue that gave this surprise away: Jj's phewtick notification popped out one of his good friend's location -  "Junqiang is nearby! Why don't you meet him up?" Wah seriously this phewtick app is a stalker app.

Yeap okay so that's finally the end of his 23rd birthday celebration. Haha. I kept teasing him and comparing his birthday to Zoukout. It's like there's the Pre-day, Day 1 and Day 2 as well. Bahaha. I hoped Jj had lotsa fun on this very special day of his!!!! 
Now I can't wait for X'mas and welcoming the New Year 2013!! Xx
