A Guide to Bangkok

PS: View latest updated Guide to Bangkok here:

HIIIIIII EVERYONE!!
Here's finally a much requested guide to Bangkok, hopefully it would be helpful to those who are clueless about where to go and stuff to do in bkk!! Then again, I am definitely NOT a bkk pro, so these are just my two cents worth.

FLIGHTS:
I would usually fly with the budget airlines (Jetstar, Tiger, Airasia). Just input the dates you are intending to travel and compare the prices between the 3carriers to see which is cheaper! I flew with Jetstar this time round &I got it during a promotion period, ticket was $175 inclusive of a 20kg checked in baggage!
Those who are feeling rich, you might want to check out Thai Airways or other airlines!

10
Land of Smiles in just 2hours time!!!! :D

TRANSPORT:
Cab: It costs approx 400baht = $16.50 from the airport to the city area and vice versa.
While you are at the city, ALWAYS... ALWAYS ASK FOR METER before boarding the cab. Even if the cab driver offers you a fare like "100 baht = $4" and it sounds ridiculously cheap to you, always say NOOOO cuz the actual fare might only be 50baht or even lesser!! (Unless of course really bobian like 10 out of 10cabs don't wna run by meter). Cab fare starts at 35baht and jumps at the slowest speed u can ever imagine.... so no worries even if there's a jam hahaha.
11

Tuktuk: What's bangkok without a thrill ride right? I used to like tuktuk rides but have increasingly hated it because 1) IT IS DAMN EXPENSIVE in comparison to the cab 2) IT HAS NO AIRCON AND BKK WEATHER IS !@#$%^&*()(*&^%$  3) U SUFFER FROM AIR AND NOISE POLLUTION and 4) U RISK UR LIFE BECAUSE THE WAY THEY DRIVE THE TUKTUK IS SO SCARY SOMETIMES, & it doesn't help that there's no safety belt/door etc. Bahhh~
IMG_5802
The thing about tuktuk is that, if the person offers you 50baht, it is 50BAHT PER HEAD (unless I've been conned for the past few years hahaha). So if there's 3 of u inside a tuktuk, that would cost a total of 150baht, and i can swear upon my life u will pay much lesser if u choose to to sit in a cab while enjoying the aircon!!! I still remember once the person said 100baht, Stef and I happily agreed only to realise it's 100baht/person, means the whole ride was 200baht, DAMN CHEAT MONEY LA!!!!!

BTS/MRT: Almost exactly like the ones in Singapore. I would still think cabbing is the way to go in bkk though!!

HOTELS:
I stayed at Ecotel this time round which was 1000baht/night = $40/night. And as usual.... I booked through booking.com for most of my hotels.
I residence Sathorn, Budacco, Banyan Tree, Grand Diamond are some other options u might want to consider.
9
Most taxi drivers in Bkk do not know the way to Ecotel... even if u show them the hotel's namecard with the address they still might not know the way! So those who are intending to stay at Ecotel, you can tell the taxi drivers "Ramada Hotel" or "Bangkok Palace" cuz Ecotel is just situated beside them!

Ecotel is a 15mins walk away from Platinum Mall, or a mere 5mins cab ride!
IMG_5624
Street outside the hotel at night! Lotsa street side food!

Chanced upon this while walking to Platinum Mall... THE RED SHIRTS DEMOSTRATIONS/RALLY.
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWW. I was so scared there would be a fight leh

IMG_5603

SHOPPING:
PLATINUM MALL: MUST-GO-PLACE IN BKK!!!! If u don't shop here I have nothing else to say already.
IMG_5605

IMG_5611
Yz and I too excited alreadyyyyy!!!!! O.O

IMG_5608
OMGAWD I MISS THIS PLACE, really :'(
Platinum Mall is however, more suitable for the GIRLS!!! Only a few men shops, mainly at the 3rd/4th level if i remembered correctly!
Guys going with ur gfs, be prepared to carry shopping bags for them and spend 3/4 of ur time waiting!! LOL

IMG_5610
6 LEVELS OF CRAZY SHOPPING (the 6th level is a foodcourt tho, but there's still a few shops)
There's another new mall beside the old platinum mall, which is relatively smaller. 3rd level specialises in bags/luggages while the 4th level is flooded with shoes &more shoes.

But one thing I HATE about Platinum is that most shops close at 6.30pm. Means.... U GOT TO START UR DAY EARLY AND WHACK EVERYTHING!!!!

Because one day is definitely not enough for Yz and I....
IMG_5791 IMG_5792
We went there again on our 3rd day bahahaha!

IMG_5797 IMG_5795
"Sawadee kaaaaaaaaaaaa"

IMG_5799
HAPPY IN PLATINUM!

CHATUCHAK WEEKEND MARKET:

ERJIE DAMN CUTE??? She bought this geeky specs and walked like this the entire day... LOL.

IMG_5704
HOT&SWEATYYY!

IMG_5706 IMG_5707
Chatuchak is great for those vintage buys, clothes (esp for guys!!!!!)... It is a very VERY BIG market. Other than the clothing section, there's also a section for food, pets, furnitures and so on~ A day is never enough to cover the WHOLE of ctc!!

IMG_5708
OMG I LOVE THIS PICTURE SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY DADDY JUST SO CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *slaps his round tummy* HAHHAHAAH. Cannot stop laughing!!!

IMG_5710
Brown Sugar Dessert found at Section 3 of Chatuchak Market!!

IMG_5713

IMG_5714
So tired i just sat down on the floor to rest hahaha.

Oh btw, if you're getting to Chatuchak via the BTS, it is Mo Chit Station. By the MRT, I think it's Chatuchak Park Station!

CENTRAL WORLD: For all the high end brands &restaurants!
21

IMG_5754

MBK: Nothing much to shop here... I only come here for the gadgets!
This is the place you will want to visit if you want to zhng your blackberry/iphone!!
IMG_5806

17
Left is Yz's phone and mine on the right!!
I wanted flowery stickers too but the stickers they have to offer for my model... like shitzzz. So in the end i just changed my housing colours again. I ran out of ideas for the colour combi so i decided on a 'wood' cover!! I know my pink keypads abit don't match but DONT CARE!! I just want it pink!! hahahah

There are many other places to visit (which i have no time for in this trip) such as Siam Square, Siam Centre, Pratunam (beside Platinum only),  Union Mall etc!

NIGHT MARKETS:
PATPONG:
There is honestly nothing much here other than all the fake polos (fred perry &all).. Singha singlets, fake tiff&co and the famous Naraya! Heard from my sis the Naraya outlet at Patpong is one of those that carry sale items (highly discounted for old stocks/slight defect items)
IMG_5842 IMG_5847

Patpong is also highly famous for their 'PINGPONG' shows. Trust me, you'll be hounded by the guys there trying to ask u to watch the pingpong shows. I haven't watched it myself (and i am seriously very curious about it even tho i already know the contents of the show) but i heard THEY ARE MEGA RIPPED OFF. So... NOT RECOMMENDED!!
18

There used to be Suan Lom night market too but sadly it's closed!! I've also visited Khao San Road (backpackers street) before! Just lotsa angmohs &pubs... lots of street side food, expect mango sticky rice, phad thai and FRIED INSECTS. Only some shopping to be done, don't expect much~

CLUBS:
On our first night, the taxi drivers told us RCA will be raided so not advisable to head there!
So we went to Hollywood area, specifically, a gay club around there but i have no idea what it is called!
IMG_5639
likey my new wedges from platinum!!

1

IMG_5649 IMG_5651

Entrance was free and we opened a bottle, only about $8/person????
2
That's Jazreel (another frolick girl who happened to be in bkk and stayed the same hotel as us!!! SUCHA COINCIDENCE), with her bf and bf's brother!

Halfway thru, the server gave us... POPCORNS???
HAHAHAH IT WAS DAMN FUNNY!! All of us had a @.@ look LOLOLOL.
IMG_5664
Eh but the popcorn damn nice &addictive!! salty salty one!!!

AND SERIOUSLY THE GAY CLUBS WAS SO HILARIOUS!!!!
Yz and I were perpetually watching shows la!! The way the dance DAMN CUTE AND IT'S COORDINATED ONE LEH. Machiam our Zouk's Mambo night but even funnier!!!!!!!
IMG_5663
We squeezed up the platform and danced beside the gays with our 'Singaporean style' we were so out of place, cuz all the gays around us damn synchronised with their dance steps hahaha.

We finally get to club at RCA on the second night!!
IMG_5758 IMG_5757

IMG_5760
Drank at the hotel prior to RCA cuz Jaz & her bf bought a bottle from DFS!

IMG_5764

There are many clubs along the whole street but we went to Route66!

3

IMG_5775 IMG_5772
The toilet damnn chiooooo!!!!!!!!!

IMG_5782

4
Another club which is recommended to me by friends is SLIM! Clubs at RCA closes at about 2-2.30am which is considered damn early compared to the clubs in Sg!
Energetic clubbers can head over to Whip after RCA!

Other than partying, u can also enjoy other nightlife activities such as visiting the Lebua at State Tower &the Moon Bar at Banyan Tree Bangkok!
I've been to the one at Banyan Tree and the scenery is really pretty!! I would recommend going to either of these 2 esp if you're in Bkk with your loved one!! ^.* Make sure you have a proper outfit and proper footwear cuz slippers are not allowed!! Cocktail and food are not cheap tho, but it's okay to splurge once in a while righttt???? :)

FOOD:
Bangkok is a place you'll never ever go hungry at cuz food is just EVERYWHERE!
5
Food from Level 6 Platinum Mall Foodcourt!! The phad thai here are not too bad! ;)

IMG_5618 IMG_5619

Food from Ecotel's restaurant. Just normal, nothing fantastic to boost about.
6

TALING PLING from CENTRAL WORLD!!

IMG_5731

7
OKAY I WANT SOME THAI FOOD NOW PLEASEEE.

Another thing worth mentioning is the 7-11 in Bangkok!!!! Things are REALLY CHEAP and food are surprisingly not badddd hahahaha.
8
The above are food Yanzhen and I went to get at 3am cuz we were so hungry to fall asleep.

MASSAGE:
There are lotsa massage parlours around Ecotel ranging from 150-200baht! The ones in the tourist areas such as Patpong is usually 250baht!
12

IMG_5807
Chan recommnded Health Land before but it was full house the other time when we were there. Erjie's thai friend recommended as well so we gave it a shot!!

IMG_5816
Best to do a reservation cuz waiting time can be up to 1hr++ 2hours!

IMG_5821
We did the traditional thai massage for 2hours, and it wasn't superbly good leh.

I don't think there's much sightseeing to do.. Some other places you might be interested in would be the famous Floating Market, 4 Faced Buddha Temple and the Grand Palace. Don't really know much sightseeing stuff to do cuz I usually just shop!!

Okay that's the end!!!! I hope this is useful and have fun in Bkk to those who will be heading there soon!!
